Garage Door Installation Track Level

The jambs must be plumb and the header level for a square opening.

Garage door installation track level. Center the door panel in the garage doorway. In the past extension springs were safer to install but didn t have containment cables running through the center of the spring. Framing the opening the garage door opening should be approximately the same size as the door figure 1. The opening must be framed with 2 x 6 minimum wood jambs.

Begin installing the track by attaching brackets to the vertical track pieces. Go to your local home improvement store and buy some angle iron and lower the power head. Torsion spring and opener applications require 2 x 6 minimum spring anchor pads. Have a friend help you pick up and move the heavy panel to the doorway.

Place the bottom door panel across the opening for the garage door centering it over the opening. Position the panel in the center of the doorway then hold a level over the panel to make sure it s level. Unless you have a carriage style garage door your garage door will have two door runs that move from the floor to the ceiling. This very common garage door track option uses up even less headroom space than a 12 radius track.

Pre drill two 1 4 holes. See the section in your manual titled position the opener. Then they ll go horizontally parallel to the garage ceiling and floor. Note if you plan to install a garage door opener in the future offset the center flange so the base of the opener can be mounted.

Your opener appears to be installed almost level with the garage door rather than angled backward. Fasten the center bearing plate to the spring pad with 5 16 x 2 1 2 lags. Place the wheeled axles into the side hinges and the top and bottom axle supports. The door runs are housed in a garage door track one on each side of the garage door.

This second track is installed above the horizontal section that is attached to the curve from the vertical track section. That will cause the jerky noisy operation when you close the door. Position the door with the hinges on the top facing inside the garage and the weatherstripping. Use shims to adjust the panel as needed.
