Garage Door Does Not Go Down

If you operate your door manually and the door will not go all the way down don t force it.
Garage door does not go down. Doing this will force your garage door to close but like just mentioned this method only works with certain models. The garage door limit settings isn t set properly. This could cause unnecessary damage. When the door won t go down automatically these sensors are often at fault.
If the door can be reasonably easily opened and closed by hand but the opener balks at closing the door the tension setting probably needs to be increased. Door starts down then stops before it is closed. A twisted or slightly bent track may be the culprit. If the door does go down but stops before hitting the floor you may need to adjust the opener itself.

Push the door back to adjust the door and get the center aligned again. By pushing the door back into position you should have made the vertical track straighten. Something mechanical has most likely bound up. Check garage door for binding.
Sometimes you ll notice that your garage door closes all the way and then immediately goes back up instead of staying in the closed position. Press and hold the wall console button until the garage door is completey closed. Carefully inspect the track and the rollers to see if something is stuck. If an operational problem exists and the garage door opener will not close the opener can be forced to close.
If i let go of the bottom the door stops. It is possible that the vertical track down the side has gone out of alignment and shifted due to a slightly loose lag screw. Besides longneck s excellent points if the garage door or opener is a new installation and has not worked before it could be that the opener s internal tension sensor is not correctly set. If the tracks are blocked a simple removal of the blockage should be enough to restore working order.
If your garage has a manual door meaning one that s opened and closed by hand and the garage door refuses to go down do not force it. Finally if the tracks responsible for carrying the garage door down have been bent warped or otherwise damaged it may prevent the door from closing properly. Eye on both side of the door is not on i have to hold down the bottom in the garage to bring the door down. Think of a garage door s travel limit as the distance it needs to travel to close or open entirely.
